IEC Certificate
Overview
An Importer Exporter Code is mandatory to trade across India's borders. No consignment clears customs and no trade remittance is processed by a bank without one.
It is issued by the DGFT against the entity's PAN, covers all products and all ports under a single code, and does not expire. It does have to be updated annually to stay active — a step that is easy to forget and discovered at the worst possible time, with a shipment waiting.
The IEC is also the hook the export incentive schemes hang on, so it needs to be correct from the start. We obtain it, link the bank and business details properly, and keep the annual update in hand.
